HORROR STORIES
The following are true incidents gathered from owners of second homes on
St. Simons Island, Georgia.

BROKEN WINDOWS

A beach home near a public parking lot was vandalized by rock throwing
teenagers "having a little fun." They broke three windows and a venetian
blind. Rain blew through the broken windows and damaged the hardwood
floors. It was weeks before the rental company discovered the damage
because it was during the slow season.

DISASTROUS WATER LEAK

Someone left a third story faucet running at a $3 million beach front home.
Three weeks later a passerby noticed water pouring out of the foundation. The
floor, ceiling and wall damage resulted in a $400,000 insurance claim and a
year's worth of headaches and repairs. The home was listed for sale at the
time, but needless to say it would not sell until the repairs were complete.

BREAK-INS

Burglars used a crow bar to pop open the windows at several vacation cottages
one night. They used the owners' bed linens as sacks to haul off stereos,
computers and other electronics. It was weeks before all of the break-ins were
discovered and the damage assessed.

POT PARTY

The owner of a brand new $1.5 million beach home arrived to discover that
someone had used their new home for a party. They found marijuana stubs,
beer cans and urine on the floor. It was thought that a construction worker
had probably made a copy of the key while doing some final "punch list" items.

CHAMBER MAIDS

The former maids of a certain high end vacation home were spending quite a
bit more time than necessary cleaning up. In fact, one was discovered
enjoying the luxurious master suite with her boyfriend. She wasn't supposed
to have a key!

ROWDY WEDDING RECEPTION

Against the wishes of the owner, a $2.5 million oceanfront home was rented
to a wedding party. Cars were parked everywhere and it was standing room
only at the reception. No one knows how the refrigerater suddenly sprang a
leak and destroyed two levels of solid oak flooring before the maid service
finally showed up to clean. Six months later they are still trying to put it back
together. The insurance company no longer gives the owner that "warm
fuzzy" feeling they saw on the commercials.

WELL-CONNECTED CO-EDS

The owner of a $1.5 million beach cottage had just finished redecorating.
Everything was perfect for her very first guests who were relatives of a
prominent state official. She even put out fresh flowers. The tenants turned
out to be a group of attractive co-eds in town for Georgia/Florida football
weekend. When the police arrived at 1:30 A.M. there were an estimated 200+
intoxicated college students spilling out of the cottage and into the street. The
home was trashed and the owner devastated!
